Ennio Morricone’s A Fistful of Dollars — arranged for solo trumpet & orchestra
This recording reimagines Ennio Morricone’s celebrated theme from A Fistful of Dollars as a concerto-style work for solo trumpet and orchestra. Trumpet soloist Morris Northcutt, the son of a Korean immigrant, brings the iconic film score into the concert hall, highlighting the expressive range of the trumpet in dialogue with full orchestral forces. While the melody is instantly recognizable, the performance is framed within the classical tradition, emphasizing tonal artistry, lyrical phrasing, and orchestral balance.
The adaptation was arranged, conducted, and produced by Justo Morao, whose vision shaped the piece into a concert work that retains the drama of the original while expanding its musical depth. The recording was mixed and mastered by German Landaeta, ensuring a world-class sound that bridges cinema and classical refinement. Performed with an all-Venezuelan orchestra, the project reflects an international collaboration of artistry, uniting Northcutt’s American voice with an international world-class production team.
Submitted in the Best Classical Instrumental Solo and Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella category, this performance represents a virtuosic classical solo work with orchestral accompaniment, transforming a legendary score into a refined concert-hall experience.
